After he was put in his bed by his father, Jimin slept for few a minutes. Thinking that his child is asleep, Jimin’s father went back to work on his laptop.
It was hardly few a minutes that Jimin woke up to be crying.
Unaware of his reason for crying, Jimin kept expecting him to be consoled. His intense wail, followed by very loud crying could be heard-by from his room window.
A bird approached to investigate and examine the crying child. The song with long series of phrases repeated three or more times made the child divert his attention toward the chirping bird.
It wasn’t hard for the bird to make the child to calm down. They very soon started communication in their own ways. When Jimin’s father returned to check out on his child, he found Jimin happily playing in his crib.
But he saw a bell in Jimin’s crib. He lift it in his hand to see that it was the same bell he used to play with ringing it around when he was a kid. The whole scene got into his mind in a flash. When he was a kid, and playing in his backyard, he heard a baby bird chirping. The chirp of the baby bird was not loud enough to be heard. This made him suspect that it is less energy. So it needed to be fed. He climbed up the tree to see a lone baby bird in the nest. Its behavior was strange for the young boy. The “head bobbing”, which birds do when they are hungry and want to be fed.
He quickly went back home n brought some cooked rice grains for the baby bird. It happily ate the grains as he fed it one grain at a time. Then he hung his bell to a twig on the tree so that the lone bird does not feel lonely.
Jimin’s father just smiled and looked at the window. He went near the window to see if the bird was still there. But he could see none. This was a ‘thank you’ gesture from the tiny creature. He felt so blessed to have the bird around him. His one good deed has lead to another. It is not always that we need to do more but rather focus on tiny deeds. There is nothing greater than doing something for others.

- A passerine is a perching bird. These are birds that have three toes forward, and one backward. e.g. the House Sparrow, songbirds, and finches.
