Success usually tends to come to those that pursue it with sustained, courageous and single minded devotion. Efforts that are sustained over a long enough period of time tend to mould outcomes – taking luck out of the equation by creating the best conditions for success. It’s often the case that those considered lucky are actually really good at reducing the chances of failure.
Once there lived a salt seller who used to carry his bags of salt on his donkey. Everyday the salt seller and the donkey would go to market to sell salt.On the way they had to cross a stream. They would cross it on foot with caution such that the salt bags don’t touch the water in the stream.
One day the donkey tumbled down while crossing the stream and the salt bag also fell into the water. The salt dissolved in the water and hence the bag became very light to carry. The donkey was happy.
The donkey started to play the same trick every day to avoid carrying the bags. The salt seller came to know the trick and decided to teach the donkey a lesson.
The next day he loaded a cotton bag on the donkey. The donkey played the same trick hoping that the bag would become lighter. But the dampened cotton became very heavy to carry and the donkey suffered a lot carrying the heavy weight.
He learnt a lesson. Later he did not play the trick and the salt seller was happy.
Moral of the story : Luck won’t favour always.
The belief that one’s actions will cause the desired outcome is the most motivating argument of all.
