One Ordinary Day

Joonie woke up to the ‘good morning aRMy’ hum of her alarm clock. The sun filtered through the curtains on thw windows of her apartment, casting a warm glow on her face.

She stretched her arms wide, yawned a whole and set about her morning routine – making a hot cup of coffee, reading through the news and then side by side preparing breakfast.

The day felt usual. She got ready for workafter breakfast. As she walked to work, she passed the neighbours, usual people she come across daily. Greeting everyone with a warm smile.

The twins in grade 2 loved to hold her hand while going down the stairs.

Jin from the bakery always greeted her with a cheering ‘Good Morning’.

Joonie’s job at the local library was eventful, filled with sorting books and helping to stack up. While shelving a stack of novels, Joonie noticed a little old book which was left unnoticed by her since she joined the job.

Struggling to reach the book on the top shelf, Joonie got a smile on her face as she recognised the boo. It was ‘A Collection of 7 stories’. Jonie had to read through the pages of the book about the 7 different stories which her mother used to read for her when she was a toddler.

Her eyes lit up with joy and she clutched the book tightly as she scampered off to her desk following with a delighted smile.

That evening, Joonie returned home though tired but content. She made a cup of tea for herself and settled into her balcony chair with the book. As she reread, she reflected on the small events in the stories that made up her day to shower self-love, gratitude, compassion – each seemingly ordinary story on friendships, yet woven together into the essence of life lesson.

In the quiet of her apartment, Joonie felt a sense of filfilment. it was an ordinary day, but in it’s simplicity, she found the extraordinary.
