The Runaway Boy (Part 7)
Staying awake that night Joon got an opportunity to think over his life. He realized that the only way to overcome that is by taking charge of his life. He can now change his story. He can become empowered to alter the course he is on by changing how he responds to the situations he finds himself in.
He discovered that in life everyone have their own struggles, trials and tribulations and rough patches. Life is a constant battle. But then we still have to seemingly be happy with smiles and sunshine.
The focus now needs to be on how to help himself maintain the new mindset he has adopted. Life in this hostel has taken him away from his family, missing them constantly.
“Pick up your things”, his sister would request Joon when he left his belongings everywhere because it was his own house. But now Joon learnt that he has to take care of his things.
“I got a new friend eomma!”, as Joon said to his mother that weekend during calling. His mother was in tears of happiness when he said “I now wash my plate after my meal”, for he is learning to develop life skills.
Mina was silent when Joon said,’Noona, I complete my homework every evening and all my class notes are complete”.
“I got to know why other boys are here in hostel”, as Joon declared, “I got to know about people life here eomma. Some have comfortable living at their home but their parents are too busy to spend time with them.”, he paused as he wanted to tell about his new support system. “Jinn dont have his father so his mother works double duty to provide him the education. She is busy day and night so he stays in hostel as no one is there to look after him”, he said in a sad tone.
“Joon..!”, his mother wanted to confirm if he is fine.
“I am fine eomma and thank you all for making me realise the importance of being responsible for myself”, he was proud of his family.
“I don’t get late to school now, and I get up at 6 daily noona, you will be happy to know this”, he was teasing his sister.
“I follow all the rules here. They teach us so well appa”, he finally spoke to his father. “You always wanted me to learn punctuality, now I have”, was enough to make his father say, “Come back son!”.
“No appa. The boys here need me. I will complete my schooling here as this has given me a new life.”, Joon announced his life plans.
“I am fine eomma appa, don’t worry about me. Your son has learnt to take care of himself and others too”.
Joon soon got accustomed to the new place and his new life. He had been a brat before entering the hostel five years back. He was dependent on his parents and sister for every small need. However the hostel life has turned him into a confident, humble and a responsible person.
