Greed leads to a lesson

Greed leads to a lesson !

Once in a village lived a farmer named Joon who few cattle, few goats and a little land around his hut. Through them he made a living by farming seasonal crops and also by selling milk of his cow and goat. He was a miser, who would add a bit of water to increase the quantity of the milk. By selling such milk he had earned enough.

Once while returning to his village after selling the day’s milk, he thought to rest a while under the shade of a tree, at river side. He kept the money he earned by selling milk in a pouch and went to sleep. He was unaware of the monkeys residing on the tree. One monkey climbed down the tree and seeing a bright colourful pouch, took it in his hand. On opening it, the monkey jumped in joy seeing many colourful papers in it. The monkey started to blow the papers in air, which fell on the ground as confretti.

Few fell on the ground, few in the river and many into the muddy puddle. the monkeys were overjoyed seeing the beautiful, colourful view.

The farmer woke up by the noise made by the monkeys. Seeing his money flying in air and scattered all around, the farmer was startled and searched for his money pouch. He searched in his pocket, in his bag and everywhere around but could not find it. He was disappointed seeing his money getting wasted. He was in tears and started searching and picking them up. He realised the importance of losing earned money. He realised how much he was betraying the people he sell his milk to by adding water. He realised it is his misconduct and unfair to cheat people. He pledged to sell pure milk henceforth. He realised ‘One must be content with what one has’

We let go of many good things in our life because of our greed of having better things for ourselves. Greed will make us do things that are not the right choices. Greed makes us selfish, anxious and also harms our self-respect. One must be content with what one has.
