Jiminie was a young girl, having 3 friends. She had relied on her friends since the past 1 year. After spending 2 years at home, attending only online classes and not being able to meet any of her classmates in physical, Jiminie was excited to make new friends the moment offline classes were announced at her school.
She was so excited that 6 hours from 1st class to 8th class along with short break and lunch break she had thought was not sufficient for her.
But she had no idea on what others had gone through in the past 2 years.
She had felt they too would be excited to meet her and that they would treasure her
She would keep talking about things that she knew or the things that she had experienced. She would follow them wherever they go to talk with them.
So much so that even her teachers would warn her and suggest her to stop talking.
Her friends started ignoring her talks. All the teachers were annoyed by her behaviour. They expressed the same to her in all possible ways.
Ultimately it so happened that she was getting scoldings from each and every teacher. The students she had thought were her friends would laugh. She started to get angry. In her anger, she would cry loudly, throw her things and even treat others badly.
Her teachers were worried of her behaviour. They all came up with a plan to handle Jiminie anger issue.
Jimine class teacher announced a collage making competition for the students of her class.
All the students were excited and so was Jiminie.
That day, all were ready and waiting to start with collage making.
The teacher instructed all to draw a diagram first with pencil over which they can attach the paper pieces to collage.
They did the same. When they opened their adhesive gum to attach the coloured pieces of paper, their teacher instructed them to not to use glue.
All the students were in a fix. Their smaller pieces of colored papers were flying out of the diagram due to wind.
For this, the teacher came to Jimine and started to explain.
“Expectations are natural in life. So are pain and sorrow”, Jiminie looked up at her class teacher.
“Whenever sorry comes like this wind, it definately has an effect on our beautiful life, just like the wind towards your colorful pieces of papers.”
The teacher paused a bit and continued ” Anger is a completely normal, usually healthy, human emotion. But when it gets out of control and turns destructive, it can lead to problems—problems in your personal relationships, and in the overall quality of your life.”
Jiminie thought for a moment while the teacher pat her hand on Jimin’s head.
“Your anger does more harm to you than it does to others. So stop being angry. Stop expecting. Don’t blame people for disappointing you. Rather blame yourself for over-expecting “.
Jiminie was in tears and she hugged her teacher for comfort.
Moral of the story: No expectations , No disappointments
